How to Print from an Apple iPhone to a Wireless Printer

Friday, May 21st, 2010

With the all the advancements in technology, more and more devices are becoming multitasking machines. The introduction of the Apple iPhone, for instance, revolutionized the world of mobile phones by giving everyone a small, multimedia wonder that allowed you to make calls, text, play games, watch movies, update social media sites and even connect to a wireless printer.

Printing from an Apple iPhone is simple, quick and easy, thanks to a lot of third party applications out there that let you connect wirelessly to a printer of your choice. Below are some practical steps and the best applications that you can use to help you print from your iPhone to a wireless printer.

1. Try PrintMagic for the Apple iPhone. This affordable third party application lets you print photos and documents on any wireless printer that supports Page Description Language (PDL)” data stream.” To make sure that your PrintMagic supports your printer, it’s best to download the free trial version first. This handy app allows your iPhone to connect to a supported printer via WiFi. To print text and web pages, all you have to do is copy and paste the text or the URL (for web pages) on the clipboard, start the application, then print. Photos, meanwhile, can be printed directly from your media library. You can’t print email attachments or documents, but at least creating printouts of your snapshots is quick and painless.

2. Use HP’s iPrint Photo. Released by HP in 2008, this free application is a handy tool that allows you to print 4 x 6-inch photos from your iPhone to any compatible HP printer connected to a WiFi network. Since HP’s Print Photo is free, don’t expect much in the way of features. It only allows you to print 4 x 6-inch photos, so if you want to print web pages, documents, text or larger photos, you would have to go the old route of transferring files to a computer before printing it on your HP printer.

3. Download and install Print from EuroSmartz on your Apple iPhone. The most versatile printing application to date, EuroSmartz’s Print lets you print photos, web pages, documents and contacts over both cellular and WiFi networks. The company’s latest product, aptly named Print & Share, can even allow you to print emails, which you should access directly from the application itself. It also comes cheap, at only $2.33.

4. Try using Air Photo on your iPhone. Air Photo is one of the latest applications that allow you to print wirelessly from your iPhone. For only $1.99, this app lets you send photos directly to a printer via a WiFi network. The Bonjour application is launched when you connect to the server from your iPhone. You can then edit or crop your pictures here before printing them out. How’s that for ease and usability?

5. Go for Avatron’s Air Sharing Pro if you want to do more than just print wirelessly. This slightly costly application ($9.99) is a multi-tasking program of sorts, letting you transfer and share files, view documents (including PDF files) and even email and access remote volumes. It also allows you, as an additional feature, to print photos, text and PDF files stored in your iDisk. It doesn’t allow for direct printing from Safari, Notes or your camera roll, though.

Now you have it–five handy and practical Apple iPhone applications that can help you print wirelessly over a network. Go for iPrint Photo if you use an HP Printer (since it’s free), but if you want more versatility, then chose Avatron’s Air Sharing Pro. With the next generation iPhone in the horizon, though, maybe we’ll finally see a built-in printing feature that will make it easier for all iPhone users to print photos, text, web pages and documents.

4 Steps You Will Need When Setting Up a Wireless Printer

Friday, March 12th, 2010

For most first timers to setting up wireless printers, problems may arise during the installation process. But the truth is that this task is just easy. There are only 4 steps you will need along the way.

1. The wireless network card. This is usually found in your PC. If it doesn’t have one, you can buy the card from computer shops. Install it to prepare for the entire process.

2. Buy a router too. Wireless printer setups will not be possible without a router on hand. Make sure that both the wireless network and router are 802.11 compliant.

3. Be ready to set-up your router. The router basically needs to be installed using your printer. Some routers come with CD’s that you can use in the process. Some routers may also require setting-up of passwords so that access will only be limited to those who are allowed to make use of the printer.

4. You can now set up your wireless printers but make sure the router gets recognized by your OS. Use the control panel of your computer then click over the “printers” bar. This will lead you to the “printers” window. Now you may add the printer. A list of printer types will appear so choose the one you want to add. Your OS will search for the printer model then it will automatically install the driver software.

With all the steps in installing your wireless printers, you will think that the process is not that hard after all. It just requires some simple following of instructions. Remember that some dialogue boxes will appear during the set-up. You need to read what it says before you do some clicking of the mouse.

How to Print Wireless from Your Old Printer

    Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Some of you may think that it is impossible to print wireless from your old printers. Well, think again. Even if you own a non-wireless printer, the possibilities are endless when it comes to the recent technological advancements launched in the market.

However, you may need to invest on some gadgets in order to print your documents wirelessly using your old printer. You may also search for wireless printer servers that you may use in the process. Here’s how you may actually do wireless printing from your old printers.

Set-up your printer for wireless printing

Begin with getting wireless print servers that are compatible both with your wireless network and your printer. If your printer manual does not specify any compatibility with wireless printing servers, do not despair. There are documentations that may not say that your printer can be compatible with a server. Nonetheless, you will find out later on that it is compatible.

You may check compatibility through website listings. Verify this on the site of the printer server manufacturer and check for compatibility issues as well. You may make use of the server for printing purposes only if you have multifunctional printers but not for scanning and other functions.

    Install the wireless printing servers

You should read the manual that comes with the server first. The installation process is explained in detail through the documentation. The basic steps include the following:

    1. Use a USB cable to connect your printer with the printer server. Turn the printer on.

    2. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the server to your PC. Remember that this is important in the first part of the installation process only. You will not need this later on as you print wireless.

    3. Use the CD that comes with the printer server and insert it inside the CD-ROM drive. In this part of the installation, you need to set up the password together with the IP address. You should also configure the password and the IP address so that you can connect with the wireless network. Printer drivers will also be installed.

    4. You may now configure your print server. This is important in order to access the wireless network. Provide it with the same SSID network name as that with your router. Make sure you set it up in such a way that you will be able to use the same wireless printing channel later on. If you are going to use an encryption on the router, make sure you also enable the same encryption on your print server. You will then be asked to enter the password – sometimes called as an encryption key.

    5. After the printer drivers are installed, you may now disconnect the Ethernet cable between the server and the PC. This will then allow you to print wireless later on. Make sure that the drivers are also installed in both PCs that will make use of the printer.

You may check if wireless printing will work by accessing the online configuration of the printer server. You will be required to enter the IP address, administrator name and password. After you have checked on this, you will then be able to use your old printer wirelessly.
