First of all, the iPad boasts of extended battery life at 10 hours–some users have even reported that the iPad’s battery lasts for an amazing 12 hours. The iPad is also a great Internet / multimedia machine, with Apple’s easy-to-use Safari browser preinstalled for your convenience. And, being an Apple machine, this tablet computer has a gorgeous interface, a fantastic display (1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch) and is quick and painless to use. It is also light and very responsive and fast to the touch, making game playing a virtually exciting and very enjoyable experience.
The Cons of the Apple iPad
The most glaring omission that users have been complaining about is the lack of USB ports in the Apple iPad. To connect cameras, keyboards and other devices via USB, one has to purchase the Apple camera connecting kit. Another complaint heard from most users is that they bemoan the lack of Flash support in the iPad. This means that you cannot view videos from Hulu, Facebook, ABS and even Nickelodeon. The iPad does not have a camera and, like the iPhone, multitasking (or opening two or more applications at the same time) is nonexistent. Also, some people have reported that WiFi connectivity was buggy and that they experienced slow connections with their otherwise reliable routers. This has been fixed, though, with the latest firmwar update of the iPad.
The Pros of the HP Slate
Although reported to be more expensive than the iPad, the HP Slate has been said to include some features lacking in Apple’s tablet computer. A number of websites have already leaked specs of HP’s computer tablet, despite the fact that it will be released later this year. Based on these reports, the Slate will have 1.6GHz Atom Intel processor (a step up above the Apple iPad’s 1Ghz processor), upgradable storage (via SD card reader) and all the ports that the iPad lacks. This includes, 1 USB port, a card reader, audio and HDMI output and even a SIM card tray. And, to slam the ball right in their own court, the HP Slate also has a webcam and Flash support–two things that iPad users have been clamoring for.
The Cons of the HP Slate
With reports stating that the base model of the HP Slate will be available at $550, this computer tablet is $50 more than the cheapest iPad. Its battery only lasts five hours–half the battery life of the iPad. And, although it does have all the bells and whistles lacking in the popular Apple tablet (USB ports, integrated Flash, front and back cameras), the iPad’s gorgeous, crisp and crystal-clear display is still a lot better than the Slate’s.
